Day 14, rest day in San Francisco.  20 miles and 50,000 feet of climbing, half of which was done in a trolley car and the other half on foot.  No bike riding today..  A rest day in San Francisco is just too much!!  Wow what a place.  Slept in til 8:30 a.m. and I was out the door to explore by 9:30 a.m..  Unfortunately the weather was lousy.  It was raining cats and dogs, everything was shrouded in fog and I had limited rain gear.  I got soaked but was too enamored with the sites of this town to care. By noon it cleared off, the sun came out and the fog lifted.  I road the trolley car up to China town and from their walked to Little Italy, the financial district and Union Square.  After a "to die" for meal at a chinese restaurant and lots of wandering around taking in the scenes I took the trolley back to Fisherman's Wharf, wandered around there and then sat by the beach.  Found an Italian restaurant for dinner and was fortunate enough to navigate my way back to the motel.  I had a great day and can't wait to return to San Francisco!

Did I mention that my first stop was for Espresso?

The Trolley is coming into the turn around station which is like a large "lazy susan"

Once it is in, two guys get out and literally push it around so that it can proceed on the outbound track.

Kind of dreary in the a.m.

Pic from the trolley heading up a hill.

China Town was like a whole different world.

If I had not already eaten lunch I would have bought one of these BBQ'd birds.

This pic does not accurately portray how steep this hill is.

I saw this and instantly thought of Leisa Rose.  XOXOXOXO

Alcatraz (with pier in front).  It appears to be very close to shore.  I bet Leisa could have escaped from there by swimming to freedom.

San Fran Bay.  If you look closely you can see a very large sail boat coming into the harbor

  1. Saturday in Essexville. I wandered around the Antique Fair in Midland trying to get through it before the downpour that was threatening (success) and looking for treasures I couldn't live without (success)!
In the evening Jack had his soccer game under the lights at the football stadium. The wind was blowing so hard it chilled me to the bone. We lost 1-3 to John Glenn. Jack started and played the entire first half then stood on the sidelines and froze the entire second half. I just can't figure it out!
