Santa Cruz CA to Carmel Valley, CA. 73 miles and 2900 feet of climbing. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. The weather was sunshine, tail winds and warm. The views ranged from agriculture on steroids to magical ocean views. In the agricultural area we saw fields of strawberries, artichokes, lettuce, spinach and a whole bunch of stuff I could not identify. The fields are so large that they make the fields of Bay County look like homestead garden plots. It was really an experience. As we moved back to the coast we went thru Monterey and then drove thru the Pebble Beach Golf club area. The ocean views were magnificent and the homes in the area were absolutely insanely conspicuously expensive. Wow. We saw the two extemes of American life today: the migrants working in the strawberry fields and the playground of the RICH. Boy do we have economic "diversity" in this country! One of the many highlighgts of the day was a visit to the Calfee bicycle factory. They produce high end carbon fiber frames along with bamboo and wooden bicycles. The owner Craig Calfee set up a factory in Ghana, Africa that produces Bamboo bikes. It has been a real boon for their economy. He is currently working on a jig that can be used by "do it yourselfers" i.e. people like me, to make their own wooden bicycles. I told him to hurry up, get it marketed and I will be his first customer! In the factory we also so one of the bikes Greg Lemond used in the tour de France. It was an interesting place. It was a very good day. I can't believe that we will be done a week from today.

Starbucks anyone??
Agriculture is king!
Greg LeMond's bike
The bike in front is made of bamboo. It was my size and only costs$15,000. If anyone is wondering about what to get me for my next birthday,,,,,,,
Monteray bay. There are actually some sea lions in their someplace. I sat and watched them for a long time.
Looks like more fun than a bicycle.
Avacodoes.
Me in front of Cypress Lookout on Pebble Beach.

Sorry that you had trouble with the pictures I do enjoy those to get my morning started.
ReplyDeleteWe had a good evening in Essexville. A game in Bullock Creek under the lights. We ran a 3-5-3 and they were able to score on us in the first 45 seconds. (The best part was there was an announcer and he announced how long the goal took to score!) Our crowd went wild & expressed lots of comments about the coaching strategy. It did improve as the game went on and we ended up winning 5-1. They were a very weak team and only had 13 players.
I got a huge cheer from all the boys when they got to the bus and saw that I had donuts (cost $25) and then got a hug from Jack in front of all of them (priceless).
We have another game tonight at USA.
