Day 4, Florence, OR to Bandon, OR, 76 miles and 3560 feet of climbing. Today was a long, tiring day. Started out in a cool, fog cloaked, light drizzle. By mid morning the sun was out, the fog lifted and a 12 mph wind came out of the south, right in our faces. Generally the views were mediocre. We were in either sand dunes or dense maritime pine forests most of the day. It was very much like the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes area. Toward the end of the day we were on "Seven Devils Road" and did some outrageous climbs. It is called 7 Devils because there are 7 major climbs all of which are comparable to "The Wall" on DALMAC. I suspect some of my BREEEZZE BROS. and wannabe BREEEZZE BROS. (you know who you are) are wanting to know if I actually conquered each of the climbs and the answer is, "Of course I did!!". After checking into the motel I went a couple miles up the road to see some rock formations that we will ride by tomorrw but will probably not be able to see because of the fog. I am tired tonite, but still grinning!

This shop doubled as a coffee shop and a smoked fish house. It smelled so good I almost stayed there until lunch time.
I tried to suck my "fat tire" in but they snapped the pic b4 I was ready.
Umpqa River Lighthouse and Coast Guard station
My roommate Jim pulling a "Jared".
See old bridge in background in North Bend.
Pic of sand dunes and saltwater marsh.
Table Rock and Face Rock south of Bandon.
Table Rock in background. Kind of embarrasing that my "fat tire" was able to obscure something that big.
If you look closely you can see the Bandon Lightnouse.
Topograpy map showing climb elevation. Check out Seven Devils Road at end of the day!
Views like Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes mediocre...I guess your views the first three days were spectacular if you consider the views at the Dunes mediocre!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a less than mediocre soccer game. Lost 0-5. Really good team. We played well the first half, their first goal was 38 minutes into the 40 minute first half. The second half we fell apart. The good thing was I got rid of a box of tomatoes and a few green peppers. (Pam came to cheer the Dukes on).
Hope tomorrow brings better than mediocre views!

Haha! I love that you brought the fat tire jersey. I think you deserve one or two of their beers after those climbs. I can't even imagine! PS: am I one of the wannabe's?
